IPOH | Kerajaan Perak akan terus berusaha memastikan kebajikan bekas-bekas atlet negeri ini sentiasa dibela, dihargai dan mendapat bantuan sewajarnya atas sumbangan serta kecemerlangan mereka dalam bidang sukan.

Exco Belia dan Sukan Negeri, Howard Lee berkata, pelbagai inisiatif sedang direncanakan bagi tujuan tersebut bagi mengiktiraf bekas-bekas atlet negeri Perak yang pernah mengharumkan nama negeri Perakdan juga negara.

“Pejabat Pengerusi Pembangunan Belia dan Sukan Negeri Perak menerusi Majlis Sukan Perak telah memperuntukkan sebanyak RM65,000 bagi tujuan membantu bekas atlet kita yang mempunyai masalah kesihatan, bekas atlet yang berumur 40 tahun ke atas yang pernah mewakili Perak  sekurang-kurangnya dalam temasya Sukma atau temasya yang setaraf dengannya,’’ katanya.

Beliau berkata demikian kepada pemberita pada majlis penyerahan sumbangan kepada empat bekas atlet di bilik Media Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan, Ipoh pada Khamis.

Empat bekas atlet itu ialah Haji Shamsuddin Haji Jaafar (Olahraga), Tang Choo Mong (Olahraga), Ahmad Fadzil Zainal Abidin (Hoki) dan Puan Josephine Mary (Olahraga) diwakili suaminya Samson Vallabouy (juga bekas atlet olahraga).

Menurut Howard, isu kebajikan bekas atlet merupakan sesuatu yang sangat diambil berat oleh kerajaan negeri.
