Isu hendak memusnahkan hutan pantai untuk tujuan cadangan pembinaan balai cerap di Kawasan Sensitif Alam Sekitar Tahap 1 (KSAS Tahap 1) oleh Majlis Agama Islam Perak (MAIPk) masih belum ditangani, tiba-tiba timbul pula isu cadangan pembinaan masjid di Lot 14801, Kuala Punti, Pangkalan Pegoh, Mukim Hulu Kinta, Daerah Kinta, Perak.

Mengikut Pemberitahuan Bil. 1734 yang disiarkan dalam Warta Kerajaan ‘Federated Malay States’ (Negeri-Negeri Melayu Bersekutu) bertarikh 3 September 1910 telah merizabkan tanah di Lot 14801, Wilayah Kampung Kuala Punti, Mukim Hulu Kinta, Daerah Kinta seluas 5 ekar 1 rod 38 pole sebagai tapak tanah perkuburan Islam.

Berdasarkan sumber rujukan yang boleh dipercayai, Tanah Perkuburan Islam Kuala Punti dan persekitarannya mempunyai kaitan dengan sejarah dan warisan penempatan awal Melayu di Ipoh, warisan Diraja serta serta sejarah perdagangan bijih timah sebelum zaman penjajah iaitu penglibatan Melayu dalam kegiatan perlombongan bijih timah.

Apabila dirujuk kepada Rancangan Tempatan Ipoh 2020 (RT Ipoh 2020) pula, telah terdapat rizab masjid yang jaraknya lebih kurang 200 meter dari Tanah Perkuburan Islam Kuala Punti.

Persoalannya, mengapa cadangan projek masjid hendak dilaksanakan juga di Tanah Perkuburan Islam Kuala Punti sedangkan untuk jangka masa panjang keperluan tanah perkuburan Islam adalah semakin mendesak dan tanah-tanah perkuburan sedia ada di kawasan berhampiran semakin terhad.
