Semuanya berakhir – Perancis mengalahkan Croatia 4-2 untuk memenangi Piala Dunia kedua mereka, dua dekad setelah kejayaan pertama mereka pada 1998 dalam pertandingan itu.

Mendahului 2-1 di separuh masa pertama, gol pertama pada minit ke-18 adalah gol sendiri apabila sepakan terkena kepala Mandzukic dan bola melantun masuk ke gawang gol Croatia.

Croatia menyamakan kedudukan pada minit ke-30 melalui Ivan Perisic setelah pergelutan di hadapan pintu gol selepas sepakan percuma.

Perancis kembali mendahului pada minit ke-38 apabila dihadiahkan sepakan penalti setelah bola terkena tangan pemain Croatia di dalam petak penalti. Pengadil mengambil masa untuk merujuk kepada VAR sebelum memutuskan penalti untuk Perancis. Griezmann diberi tugas mengambil tendangan penalti.

Masuk babak ke-2, Perancis menambah derita Croatia apabila Paul Pogba menghasilkan gol ke-3 pada minit ke-59 akibat kesilapan pertahanan Croatia. Kylian Mbappe  pula mengukuhkan kedudukan dengan jaringan pada minit ke-65 menjadikan kedudukan amat mustahil bagi Croatia untuk mengejar.

Mario Mandzukic merapatkan jaringan pada minit ke-69 tetapi ia tidak cukup untuk menyekat kemaraan Perancis untuk menjuarai Piala Dunia Russia 2018.
