GEORGE TOWN: Polis Malaysia merampas 12 tan kokain bernilai RM2.4 bilion dalam rampasan dadah terbesar di negara ini.

Dadah yang ditemui di Terminal Kontena Butterworth Utara (NBCT) pada 10 Sep, dibahagikan kepada 60 kantung dalam tiga bekas dan bernilai RM200,000 sekilogram.

DAdah itu ditemui semasa operasi Op Eagle yang dijalankan di Bayan Baru dan Padang Serai, Kedah, dan dipercayai milik sindiket dadah antarabangsa, lapor The New Straits Times.

Ketua Polis Negara, Abdul Hamid Bador berkata dadah dari Amerika Selatan bercampur dengan 60 tan arang, iaitu teknik terbaru yang digunakan oleh sindiket itu untuk menyukarkan pihak berkuasa untuk mengesan, walaupun dengan penggunaan unit anjing.

“Teknologi pengesan dadah biasa tidak dapat mengesannya. Jabatan kimia kami mempunyai teknologi canggih yang dapat mengesan kokain di antara arang batu,” kata Abdul Hamid dalam sidang akhbar pada hari Jumaat (20 Sep).

“Dengan kerja keras dan pengalaman ahli-ahli jabatan kimia, kami dapat mengesan kokain tersembunyi,” tambahnya.

Kontena yang diisytiharkan sebagai mengandungi arang batu yang berasal dari Amerika Selatan, telah berlabuh di pelabuhan sejak 16 Ogos.

Polis percaya bahawa sindiket dadah antarabangsa menggunakan Pulau Pinang sebagai titik transit.

Abdul Hamid menambah bahawa polis telah menahan seorang lelaki warga Malaysia, berusia 29 tahun, yang bertanggungjawab mengendalikan kontena untuk membantu siasatan.

Lelaki itu diuji positif untuk methamphetamine, dan telah direman sehingga 23 Sep.

Jumlah dadah yang dirampas (12 tan) adalah lebih tiga kali ganda 3.7 tan dadah yang dijumpai semasa serbuan pada 18 Ogos, yang merupakan rampasan dadah terbesar di Malaysia sebelum rampasan kali ini.
