KUALA LUMPUR, 2 Mei (Bernama) — Hakim Mahkamah Persekutuan Datuk Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat dilantik sebagai Ketua Hakim Negara berkuat kuasa hari ini.

Pejabat Perdana Menteri dalam satu kenyataan berkata Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah atas nasihat Perdana Menteri Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad dan selepas berunding dengan Majlis Raja-Raja telah memperkenankan pelantikan itu berdasarkan Fasal (1) Perkara 122B Perlembagaan Persekutuan.

Menurut kenyataan itu, majlis penyampaian watikah pelantikan dan istiadat mengangkat dan menandatangani sumpah jawatan serta sumpah setia di hadapan Yang di-Pertuan Agong akan dimaklumkan oleh Pejabat Ketua Pendaftar Mahkamah Persekutuan setelah mendapat perkenan Seri Paduka.

Kenyataan itu turut memaklumkan, tempoh perkhidmatan Tan Sri Richard Malanjum sebagai Ketua Hakim Negara telah berakhir pada 12 April lepas setelah mencapai umur lebih 66 tahun (66 tahun dan enam bulan).

“Setinggi-tinggi penghargaan dan terima kasih diucapkan kepada beliau (Richard Malanjum) di atas segala khidmat bakti beliau sepanjang memegang jawatan Ketua Hakim Negara,” menurut kenyataan itu.
