Menurut laporan yang disediakan oleh Malaysiakini, UMNO Perak adalah sebahagian dari entiti yang terpalit dengan skandal wang 1MDB ketika musim pilihanraya ke-13.

Ini kerana menurut laporan itu, UMNO Perak telah menerima sebanyak RM25j dari akaun bekas Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak. Transaksi direkodkan berlaku pada 29hb. April 2013.

UMNO Bahagian Taiping juga turut menerima ‘dana’ pilihanraya sebanyak RM200,000 pada 14hb. Mac 2013, lebih awal dari dana yang disalurkan ke akaun UMNO Perak.

Dalam pada itu, UMNO peringkat nasional (pusat) adalah penerima terbesar dengan beberapa transaksi berlaku di antara 3hb. Oktober 2012 hingga 2hb. Ogos 2013 nilai keseluruhan sebanyak RM198.5j.

Pemuda dan Puteri UMNO turut menerima dana sebanyak RM5.5j.

Pada 2015, Jabatan Keadilan Amerika (DoJ) mendedahkan berbilion-bilion wang mengalir ke akaun bank peribadi Datuk Seri Najib Razak dipercayai wang itu diselewengkan dari 1MDB tetapi Najib mendakwa ia merupakan derma dari keluarga diRaja Arab Saudi.

Pada 2 Julai 2018 yang lalu, Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (SPRM) telah membekukan semua akaun bank yang disyaki menerima dana dari 1MDB.

Pilihanraya ke-13 berlangsung pada 5 Mei 2013 melibatkan semua 222 kerusi parlimen dan 505 kerusi dewan undangan negeri di seluruh negara kecuali Sarawak. Dalam pilihanraya itu, Barisan Nasional yang dipimpin oleh Datuk Seri Najib memenangi 133 kerusi parlimen dan terus menerajui kerajaan sehingga berlangsung PRU ke-14.
