GEORGE TOWN | Merokok dan vape akan tetap dilarang di semua premis restoran di seluruh Malaysia bermula tahun 2020.

Mereka yang didapati melakukan kesalahan itu akan dikenakan hukuman denda sebanyak RM250 tetapi dikurangkan kepada RM150 jika denda itu dibayar dalam masa sebulan dari tarikh kesalahan dilakukan.

“Jika masih berdegil dan tidak mahu membayar, denda sehingga RM10,000 boleh dikenakan,” kata Timbalan Menteri KJesihatan, Dr. Lee Boon Chye kepada pemberita selepas merasmikan Seminar Rintangan Antimikrobial (AMR) di Universiti Sains Malaysia di sini.

Katanya, kempen tidak merokok sepanjang tahun telah berjaya mengurangkan jumlah perokok di restoran-restoran terutama di kawasan bandar.

“Kita berharap dasar ini akan mendapat sokongan daripada orang ramai. Bukan perokok agak gembira tetapi kita berharap para perokok mengambil kesempatan ini untuk berhenti merokok, mengurangkan merokok atau sekurang-kurangnya tidak merokok di hadapan orang lain,” katanya.
