Dalam pada ramai orang menghadapi masa sukar akibat pandemik Covid-19, ada juga golongan yang mendapat rahmat kebebasan dari musim wabak ini.

Jabatan Penjara mengumumkan akan memberikan Release on License (ROL) kepada pesalah kecil, yang telah dijatuhi hukuman penjara satu tahun dan mempunyai baki masa penjara kurang dari tiga bulan.

Ketua Pengarah Jabatan Penjara, Datuk Seri Zulkifli Omar menyatakan bahawa terdapat 11,018 banduan yang boleh dipertimbangkan untuk ROL.

“Semua yang dilepaskan di bawah ROL mesti lulus kriteria pemilihan yang ketat dan terlebih dahulu harus menjalani pemeriksaan Covid-19 yang dilakukan oleh Kementerian Kesihatan (KKM),” kata Zulkifli.

Tahanan yang dijatuhkan hukuman di bawah Seksyen 15 (1) Akta Dadah Berbahaya akan dipindahkan ke kem Perkhidmatan Negara (PLKN) yang diwartakan sebagai penjara sementara, lapor New Straits Times.

Antara 2,300 dan 2,800 pesalah dadah akan terlibat dalam pemindahan sementara.

Zulkifli juga meminta orang ramai untuk tetap tenang sejak penyebaran berlaku di kawasan yang dikawal ketat dan dikurung di bawah pengawasan KKM dan agensi penguatkuasaan lain.
